SIGGRAPH is the focal point for everyone involved in computer graphics and interactive techniques. Professionals from six continents come together in San Diego, California from August 5-9, for the industry’s most respected technical and creative programs focusing on fashion, research, science, art, animation, gaming, interactivity and education.
UnRavel is a living exhibition of fashion that features innovative and experimental works in computational and conceptual couture, socially conscious fashion, science inspired form, and new technology in textiles.
UnRavel brings together the works of international designers and artists who are seeking to redefine the notion of ‘wearable’. Fashion has been historically known as a form of personal expression.
UnRavel takes that expression to the next level by allowing the wearer to also interact with their environment.
The Solar Bikini is formed by using thin, flexible solar film to generate power for charging portable music devices. The Solar Bikini is the work of Andrew Schneider, a multimedia-artist and performer investigating human interdependence with technology and its implications.
Andrew’s creation is based on a bikini swimsuit retrofitted with 1” x 4” photovoltaic film strips sewn together in series with conductive thread. The cells terminate in a 5 volt regulator into a USB connection, practically a standard USB power supply.
A great concept that might work as long as we talk about sun bathing and stay away from the water …
Stay tuned for more updates from UnRavel on our blog in the coming days or check out the projects directly on the UnRavel Website.
