CPD Trade Fair

Wearable Electronic and Smart Textiles will be again on stage between July 22 and 24 during the CPD, a International Trade Fair for Womenswear and Accessories in Düsseldorf / Germany.

With 1,050 exhibitors representing a total of more than 1,430 brands from 38 countries, CPD Womenswear and Accessories is one of the biggest events in this category in the fashion industry.

Based on the success of the Wearable Electronic showcase during Avantex in June, the smart textile community presents again the growing variety of Wearable Electronic products.

A special section of 300 square meters have been set aside for the SmartTextil Village where Wearable Electronic, technical yarns and smart fabrics will be presented.

ISPO 2007

Wearable Electronics takes again center stage for the third consecutive month. In May was the Smart Fabrics, this month the Avantex and coming month the ISPO Sport & Style in Munich / Germany.Between July 8-10, the 1st Wearable Technologies congress “Where fashion meets technology” will be held in parallel with the sports equipment and fashion trade fair ISPO Sport & Style in the International Congress Centre Munich.

Avantex Wrap Up

To wrap up Avantex, at least for today, some additional photos of design concepts waiting to be produced:

The left photo shows design concepts from Cetemmsa, a Spanish company offering the service of creating the Wearable Electronic part to fashion designer. A interesting concept we will pick up in the coming days and look in more details into that.

The photo in the center shows the newest version of Hohensteiner Institute’s Solartex Solar clothing and the right photo shows a more complex = multi button elastic remote control panel from Interactive Wear in a backpack.

A very significant observation is the introduction of Eleksen’s range of modules than can be bought from the consumer after the purchase of an e-Textile product like a Jacket for example. The Jacket has Eleksens textile keypad integrated. ..read more

Avantex Show Floor

Avantex is focusing on the visualization but also on the practical aspects of innovative and future clothing. Techtextil which is next door, is mainly focused on the manufacturing part of the garment creation process.

My overview focuses on the Avantex itself, providing a view of the things to come soon into the Wearable Electronic market.

Avantex started off today and Eleksen, the world’s leading provider of touch-sensitive smart fabrics for consumer electronics in apparel and accessories, announced a new product: a module for FM radio.

This new module essentially is a stand-alone FM radio but has also the availability to work with the widely available FM transmitter accessories out there which attach to an iPod or other MP3 player.

Eleksen’s FM radio unit is fully controlled by the new ElekTex fabric sensor incorporating Eleksen’s Common Interface technology. With an ElekTex sensor embedded in a garment or for example bags or backpacks, the FM Radio module forms a complete FM radio solution.

Avantex and Techtextil on The Future of Clothing and Textile Innovation

Avantex and Techtextil 2007 will open its doors on June 11 for 4 days of highly interesting seminars and exhibitions on the future of clothing and textile innovation.

It is the second time those two events are held at the same time and the same place. Avantex target groups of designers and garment manufacturers, focuses on high-tech apparel textiles and presents developments ranging from the concept to the prototype stages. Techtextil is the world largest Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens.

This almost guaranties a highly charged atmosphere for participants from the industry and businesses but also for the visitors of the exhibitions.

Solar Power for Clothes

It turns out the German Hohenstein Institute is working for some time on a project called ‘Solartex‘ to explore the usability of solar cells in clothing.

On the upcoming Avantex, a International Forum for Innovative Apparel Textiles in Germany held from 10 to 12 June, the Hohenstein Institute will present a Jeans jacket with integrated solar cells to power electronic devices like MP3 player or cell phones.

The Hohenstein Institute optimized flexible solar panels and connection elements to fulfill all aspects and requirements of garments. The optimized solar panels and connections are mechanical robust to the extend that this Jeans Jacket can be washed in a conventional household washing machine without removing the solar panel or connector.

2007 Smart Fabrics Conference

IntertechPira, a leading provider of strategic information and analyses on advanced materials and technologies, is organizing for the third straight year the Smart Fabrics Conference from May 7-9 in Washington DC.

CITA, the biggest Wireless Telecommunication Show opened it’s doors today and with it the highly anticipated Fashion in Motion Show.

CTIA has first organized a Wearable Electronic Fashion Show as early as 4 years back and establish itself as the forerunner and promoter of Wearable Electronic.

Fashion in Motion is a collection of the most innovative and creative products and prototypes in the wearable and wireless arena. This couture style fashion show features the latest wireless devices, accessories, technical textiles, smart fabrics, and fashions available today, along with the futuristic visions of tomorrow.
