QIO Systems is now offering textile touch pads for fashion fabricators. Using Elektex and SOFTswitch technology, and is completely fabric. That means that it can be washed and dry cleaned. Even though it is washable, it is rated at up to 100,000 keypresses.
Next to the fabric keypad QIO Systems offers a wide range of electronic modules with control functions for the iPod, Bluetooth cell phones, wearable radio, Push-to-talk solutions and complete solution for integrated heating and integrated lighting into garments and soft goods.

Now this is not your typical glove. Its not heated, waterproof, or even fashionable. RallyPoint calls it the ‘Handwear Computer Input Device‘ (HCID), and it has integrated push buttons in the four fingers other then the thumb. There is also an additional sensor on the middle finger to act as a mouse clicker. Built into the back of the hand are three accelerometers to track movement. This is promising for military tech.

As part of a commercial and government concept, Pharad has developed a wearable antenna. Compatible with GSM band phones, this embeddable device helps increase reception. When first created it was aimed for first responders but now is available to the general public.This flexible, water-proof antenna, is able to be place within or on garments for great versatility. It is made of Pharad’s state-of-the-art, thin flexible material called Flextenna. This is great considering they offer other varieties too like UWB and GPS. This may become a mainstream concept soon.

Following up on the announcement of the Autumn/Winter 2007/2008 Wearable Electronic collection from O’Neill Europe, we received the first images of the H4 Jacket collection.
The start makes the H4 Walkie-Talkie Jacket, a new addition to O’Neill’s Wearable Electronic line.
Using top-of-the-range fabrics, this jacket is aimed for the adventurous free-rider. The walkie-talkie connector is inside a chest pocket designed to safely and conveniently store the walkie-talkie.
The speaker as well as the microphone is integrated into the jackets collar while the ‘push-to-talk’ button on the wind-flap.
This ‘push-to-talk’ button looks kind of cool, I have never seen such a design before and I wonder how this is mad.

Sprayway is joining the growing Wearable Electronic market and has planned to launch 4 different models this year.
The first two iPod ready models are named: Lyric (see photo) and Opus iPod Jackets. The names of this Jackets are a bit of a clue to their nature – Lyric is the women’s version, Opus is the men’s version.
They’re both neatly-cut, all-round waterproof, breathable, hooded shell jackets made from Sprayway’s own Hydro-dry two-layer fabric in a range of subtle, urban-friendly colours and with a nice, herringbone face on the fabric.

We haven’t been sure writing about the Two-Way Radio Life Vest. It doesn’t use Smart Textiles or Wearable Electronic technologies but then …. it is a very unique merge of electronic and (kind off) clothing. And we like this idea, it’s not high tech but practical and shows that merging electronic with clothing is a trend many companies exploring now.
