glo Pillow Illuminating Alarm Pillow

Are you tired of being startled awake by your alarm clock? You need a glo Pillow.Imagine being awoken by a gentle glow of light. Ian Walton and teammate Eoin McNally designed this pillow to convey the feeling of natural sunlight. The pillow uses an LED fabric to display the glowing and also doubles as read-out for the the clock function as well.

The process works by starting the gentle illuminations 40 minutes before the alarm is scheduled to go off. LumiGram has recently designed a collection of illuminated, sexy tops that promise your nights will never look the same ….

LumiGram uses Italian’s Luminex unique light emitting fabric which has as its light element fiber optics woven into conventional textiles. More info on Luminex here.

Unlike light sources such as LEDs or EL technology, the light coming from Luminex fabric is ’subtle and mysterious’ with a touch of magic, creating a mystic atmosphere, at least that’s what I can imagine it will look like in action.

Lumalive Brings Fabrics Alive

Boost Products from The Netherlands will be the first company using Philips Lumalive light emitting textiles for clothing.

After years of research, Philips has succeeded in incorporating special LED technology into fabric. “Lumalive brings fabrics and clothing alive”, says Bas Zeper, CEO of Philips Lumalive. “This now gives marketeers a tool with which to reach their market in an interactive and more effective way.”

“The LED technology in Lumalive offers unlimited graphics and interactive applications and, in combination with the trendy promotion clothing, guarantees an impressive and distinctive experience.” says Raymond Lentz, director of Boost Products.

Wearable Electronics Prediciton

The next Big thing in Wearable Electronic will be light emitting textiles. While the controls (Eleksen) and sound elements (NXT) reached a certain maturity in the integration into clothing and other soft goods, light emitting textiles still have a long way to go.Display like concepts are available from NYX and Lumalive, the former in mono color the later in full color, both work in principle as dot-matrix displays that allow dynamic content.

Other technologies such as EL-foils and glass fiber yarn illuminate textiles are on the market but they offer only static light pattern.

Getting display like functionality into clothing or soft goods like bags for the consumer market still remains a field to be explored.

Philips Research is attracting the attention of clothing and furniture companies at this year’s IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) with a world-first demonstration of the jackets and furniture that are set to change the face of global fashion.The jackets and furniture feature the new and innovative Lumalive technology. Lumalive textiles make it possible to create fabrics that carry dynamic advertisements, graphics and constantly changing the color of those products.

Philips Research has made immense progress in fully integrating Lumalive fabrics into garments that has been demonstrated by the jackets worn by Philips’ hostesses at the show.

The first generation jackets are all set to commercialize through companies partnering Philips Research. What makes this Fabric out-of-the-world are the flexible arrays of colored light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that are fully integrated into the fabric.
