Brother Retinal Display

Brother might be know for printing and other office related products, but watch out. Brother is working on a retinal display that projects a 800 x 600 resolution image directly into your retina that’ll appear as a 10-centimeter wide image floating about one meter ahead of you. Brother has fully functional prototypes and is looking to bring this to market by next year. Sweet.

Brando Workshop WiFi Detecting Hat

Brando Workshop has released another interesting product. WiFi Detection Cap finds 802.11 b/g/n signals. Using LEDs, one to show network availability and the other to show strength. The hat come is two varieties, a laptop design or a XM like design, and three colors: red, white, black). The two CR2032 batteries are included.Funny thing about this hat is that the wearer cannot actually see the activity while wearing it. Maybe this is an accessory to the Firebox WiFi shirt, or the ThinkGeek Wi-Fi shirt. Well for $14.00 it is a fun toy.

Silent Call Deaf Assistance Silent Touch Watch

For the hearing and vision impaired, the world can be very limiting. Silent Call tries to provide a level of freedom for these people. The Silent Touch provides visual and vibration for certain events. Events such as doorbell, phone, smoke alarm, fire alarm, burglar alarm trigger the watch to activate within a 300 foot range.This watch works with the Sidekick II system from Silent Call. Silent Call has wake up alarms and mattress vibrators to alert the owner. The vibration changes with the type of alert. The Silent Touch watch sells for $150.00 and the charger for $117.65. UK retailer Republic has released its Crafted iPod Jacket. This bomber jacket is made of metallic yarn and has a crushed look. Sleeve mounted controls and iPod pocket are integrated nicely. The softswitch technology is from Fibretronic and utilizes their CONNECTED-wear module.

The jacket is washable and all vital electronics are removable. Sadly only available in the UK for $109.40.

Alexander Reeder Butterfly dress

NYU Interactive Telecommunications student Alexander Reeder, has created a true one-off interactive textile. This stunning design features an automated butterfly laden dress with interactive behavior.The butterflies are activated by motion and are controlled but the wearers heart rate. The motion activation is triggered by proximity to the dress by other people. Motion consists of fluttering and as the person gets closer, the butterflies move upward.The butterflies are attached with magnetic snaps, which also supplies power. As the butterflies are removable, the dress can be worn with no butterflies or just one or all at once. A small gear motor is used to drive the flapping mechanism.
