O’Neill Europe is the most consistent company when is comes to Wearable Electronic. Starting a few years back with the iPod Jacket named Hub has evolved and expanded to the h4 line for Autumn/Winter 2007/2008.

First a short look back to O’Neill’s evolutionary work in Wearable Electronic:

In 2004, O’Neill announced the world’s 1st mobile communications & entertainment snowboard jacket the Hub for the Autumn/Winter season 2004/2005.

The HUB mobile communications and entertainment Jacket featured a removable 128Mb MP3 player, Bluetooth that allows the wearer to make and receive calls from the cell telephone and the Eleksen fabric keyboard.

Sorry – no iPod at that time and the special very low spec MP3 player that O’Neill used was not such a good idea but they changed that in the next range.

Good news for the music and iPod loving business men. According to a business news report on Forbes.com which is based on information from AFX News Limited, Marks & Spencer will sell a new range of Bagir’s iPod suits for men.

MusicStyle as Bagir named their iPod enabled suit released last year, comes complete with a strategically placed pocket for the iPod located so as not to budge.

Discrete loops to hide the earphone wires and soft-touch command controls from Eleksen on the front breast lapel complete the seamless integration of the technology.

According to the first part of The State of Retailing Online 2007, the tenth annual Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research, of 170 retailers, Americans last year spent more online on clothing than they did on computers for the first time in history.

This news is of some relevance to us because we see our main mission to bring Wearable Electronic Clothing and Fashion closer to the consumer by pointing out the retail stores that offer Wearable Electronic products in their program. Wearable Electronics have come a Long Way

VDC Corporation has send out a press release that gives a summary of last weeks Smart Fabrics 2007 Conference in Washington DC. According to VDC’s analyst Tim Shea, the Smart Fabrics Conference has come a long way since the first wearable technology conference in NYC back in 2001.

 What started in 2001 with an audience of around 50 ‘far-out techies’, university professors/students and ‘cyborgs’ reached at this years Smart Fabrics an attendance of over 125 technical, general management and investment professionals – few if any resembling cyborgs – and was supported by several exhibitors with real products.

2007 Smart Fabrics Conference

ElekSen Inside

Eleksen, the company we write quite a bit about here, was very active recently in the business section of many online and offline reports.

Firstly, there was the announcement during the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing last week where Eleksen announced it has been selected as an UMPC ecosystem partner by Intel to deliver a range of ElekTex-based solutions for Intel based Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) and MIDs (Mobile Internet Devices).

Eleksen will have an array of working reference designs, prototypes and concept designs based on a variety of ElekTex sensor designs and control electronics that can be easily integrated into an Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEMs) mobile computing accessories products.
