This is for all of you artists and designers out there. You know what sucks? Creating a great drawing, for work or for pleasure, and then having to go through the annoying measure of scanning it for digital use. Thanks to Wacom, that will be a problem of the past.

The company’s Inkling pen is small enough to fit in your pocket, yet big on major ideas. You see, it turns any drawing or scribble you come up with into a digital file, as you are doing it. It works just like a regular ballpoint pen. You sketch on to a piece of paper and you see it in front of you, in real ink. The system, however, instantly converts said sketch into your choice of digital formats.

Ah, Sony. You never give up do you? At least year’s CES the company showed off a rather bizarre wearable 3D concept. Nobody really felt it was in the cards to become a retail device. Sony, however, had other ideas. This thing is coming and its coming fast. One might even say it’s in, sigh, three dimensions.

This thing features two 1280×720 0.7-inch OLED panels mounted in front of each eye giving the wearer an experience similar to viewing a 750-inch screen from 20m away, as well as 5.1 surround sound from headphones integrated into the Head Mounted Display (HMD).

So we are not quite looking at the holodeck, but perhaps we are inching ever so closer. Thank goodness. This whole set up will cost you around $783. It releases this November ..read more

If you build it, they will, uh, come. That’s the theory anyways. San Francisco company Crave is prepping a unique hybrid design that should get people, uh, squealing with delight. Why is that you ask? Because it’s both a USB drive and a vibrator.

The Duet, as it’s classily called, does what it says it does. It stores your vital information and it, well, has sex with you. I guess it could also be used as a massager, given it has four speed settings and five power levels. It also holds 8g of your precious digital valuables so you’ll never be at a loss to explain what it is should any coworkers give you an incredulous stare. “It’s a USB drive dammit!”

Now before you go rushing to your local sex store, ..read more

There is footwear, and then there is footwear. Researchers at InStep NanoPower are trying to some wind beneath your sails with their new electrowetted insoles. Wait, what is that? It’s cutting edge technology that takes the energy produced via your steps and turns it into energy you can use on other stuff.

This means powering your many gadgets just by the steps you were going to be taking anyways. Cool right? Once this technology is firmly in place it could mean we no longer have to constantly plug in our iPhones, portable gaming machines, mp3 players and all of our other favorites.

Of course, this is a new and untested technology. It is just in the concept stages for now but who knows, maybe one day putting your best foot forward could ..read more

Sure, there are some cool dresses and gowns out there. But do they glow in the dark? Do they? Designer Halston’s new piece can answer that question with a resounding yes.

The gown can function with glow or without and it is assuredly a pretty frock in any situation. What possible use is there for a sequin gown that glows in the dark you ask? Well, imagine you are at a high society function and you return home to find the power out and a burglar afoot! You can simply power on the glow and stop that dastardly miscreant before he makes off with your precious jewels. You know, or you can just look cool.

Of course, all of that gosh darned glowing comes with a price. This gown costs about $4,000.

Fossil has been on the cutting edge wristwatch design for a while now. It comes as no surprise, then, that the company has prepped another fanciful design to add to their collection. Their Meta Watch is everything you could ever hope for in a wristwatch and it is this much closer to being a reality, thanks to its recent passing through the FCC.

The watches sync with your Android phone or tablet in order to do all sorts of cool things. Of course, it’s not out yet so the app selection is non existent at the moment. Expect that to change once these bad boys end up in consumer’s grubby little hands.

They are available for preorder now and launch officially on September 29th. I’ll see you in line at a Fossil ..read more

The worst about reading subtitles in the movie theater? The fact that your face is so comfortable, with no glasses anywhere to be seen. That may soon be changing if Sony and England has anything to say about it.

Sony is developing Subtitle Glasses that allow the wearer to see the subtitles for a film projected right there via the glasses. The company is planning on launching the items next year in England as a sort of trial run for the worldwide market. This, of course, would be of no use if you are one of those people who knows other languages. If you are like the rest of us, however, then your face is in for a treat.

We’ll let you know more as this develops, in the meantime try brushing ..read more

The world of cool headphones is a crowded one indeed. SOL Republic(Soundtrack of Life Republic) is a new company that has entered the fray in a big way. Their angle? A cool little line of headphones known as Amps and Tracks.

The line up consists of some moderately priced amp-in-ear headphones and ear buds. They offer clear, and HD if needed, sound. The company also boasts they are nearly indestructible. We’ll let you know about that once we take them to our very own Large Hadron Collider we keep in the basement of Crunchwear HQ. Or we can use our blender.

These headphones and buds will be available at the end of the month in a full range of colors. The prices range from $60-$100. Not bad for studio quality ear muffs.

You know what most pairs of binoculars lack? The ability to see into the third dimension. That’s not the case anymore thanks to Sony and their new pairs of 3-D enabled binocs.

The DEV-3 and DEV-5 digital binoculars are the world’s first digital binoculars. They shoot in HD, to make matters even cooler. The only difference between the two models? The DEV-5 has a built-in “GPS receiver that automatically geotags video clips as you travel” and 20x zoom versus the DEV-3’s 10x zoom and lack of GPS.

How much does the third dimension cost? The DEV-3 will set you back $1,400, while the DEV-5 is $2,000. Both will be released this November.
