O’Neill is at it again. The fashionwear company has announced O’Neill 365, the activewear collection for women that has some tech bells and whistles. This line is designed with active in mind. In short, it’s sportswear. However, it’s not just any old sportswear. No that would be too boring.

The magic is in the fabric. The line is made from their patented 3XDRY fabric, which has a water-repellent exterior and absorbent interior to eliminate sweat marks completely.  Additional tech features include anti-static fabric, odor-resistant treatments, UV30+ fabric to protect the skin, wind-resistant and water-resistant characteristics, HB3 headphones and wicking technology to promote dryness.

The line doesn’t hit stores until Spring 2012, so don’t start camping outside of your favorite retailer just yet. Good things come to those who wait, after all.

Cambridge Concepts have created a neat concept version of their innovative i-Dration water bottle. This fancypants water bottle actually knows when you are thirsty! Just how in the heck does it do that? Well it starts with sensors that that measure your temperature and other factors and then sends it along to an installed app on your smartphone. The bottle then measures ambient temperature and factors in how much fluid you have consumed and how much exercise you’ve done. And then, voila, it lets you know if you are thirsty. This is especially useful for people whose thirst sensors do not work.

It isn’t out yet but soon, very soon you too will be able to use the wonders of science to know if you are thirsty or not.

Body mapping sleeve

Interactive textiles are finding ways to reach everywhere. Australia’s CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology has designed a interactive sleeve that is designed to help basketball players develop a shooting rhythm. It works by making rhythmic sounds that correspond with the shooting motion. Although this cannot be used in a game situation, it does help promote repetition and muscle memory. When the sounds play like disco drums, then the motion is correct.

This body mapping technology can lead to some interesting concepts down the road… stay tuned.
