
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a shirt(or something vaguely resembling a shirt) that monitored our heart rate at all times? Well, wait. There is! Researchers at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid have created an intelligent eT-shirt that purports to do just that.
Hey you hypochondriacs out there. It is intended for hospital use, to make it easier on doctors to monitor their patients. Also, it’s not just for your heart. The shirt is embedded with electrodes that monitor its wearer’s vitals, and a removable thermometer and accelerometer for the collection of temperature and positioning data.

Sure, some t-shirts do some pretty cool things. But do any use the power of sound vibrations to charge your mobile device? We think not, until now. Orange UK’s appropriately named Sound Charge T-shirt purports to do just that.
The shirt was designed to be used at loud music festivals. If your charge is running low on your phone, all you have to do is wear the shirt near some of the festival’s many mega-loud speakers. Monitoring sleeping patterns can be tricky business. It can require tons of wires, tons of equipment and a whole lot of headaches. Headaches, after all, do not help insomniacs fall asleep. It’s a good thing, then, that recent start up Nyx Devices is on the case. The company has created something called the Somnus Sleep Shirt, which purports to make sleep monitoring easy as counting sheep.
The shirt works by analyzing your breathing patterns. It is fitted with two sensors, one on each side of the shirt, that gets that job done. That information is then transmitted to a small data recorder, which can then be uploaded to the company’s server and analyzed. Working out is hard, um, work. Why not make it a bit easier, right? Under Armour hears your flabby, flabby pleas and have readier their E39 performance shirt. This amazing little doo-dad uses electric compression to give you the workout of your dreams.
The shirt comes equipped with with a triaxial accelerometer, processor, and 2GB of storage joined by additional monitors that measure the wearer’s heart rate and breathing. Your biometric data is then analyzed to show you what you are doing wrong and right with your workout. A clue: Sitting on your couch and eating nachos is probably gonna fall on the “wrong” side of that equation.

You have a smartphone that tells you when you have new emails, but do you have a shirt that does the same thing? Didn’t think so. You know who does, though? Two industrious modders known as Chris and Madeline. This husband and wife duo has created a t-shirt that lets you know when you have new emails.
It gets this done using an Arduino Lilypad microcontroller, a few LEDs, conductive thread, and a Bluetooth dongle. The result? A flashing light when your friends and family are letting you know what is up, or when an African prince lets you know you are about to be the proud recipient of a billion dollars.
