You are a geek. This means, unless the prequel trilogy ruined it for you, you love Star Wars. This love is about to get exploited even further, thanks to Adidas and their new line of Star Wars-themed clothing items.

Being the company is Adidas, most of the clothing items are shoes. There are several designs available and, frankly, they are pretty cool. Also pretty cool? Jar Jar Binks doesn’t make one single appearance on any of them. They are officially safe to wear, meesa thinkso.

Shoes aren’t the only thing on the company’s galactic agenda, though. The company is planning a full line of related coats and jackets as well. The flight jacket is already available for around $130.

Do you like doomsday? Of course you don’t! Nobody likes harmful radiation. That is why Doomsday, the anti radiation robotic suit is the perfect gift for the paranoid person in your life.

Codenamed an “anti-nuclear radiation mobile living unit made of lead panels.” Designed by Kacey Wong, the unit is meant to be climbed inside of. Then you can navigate yourself around via some peepholes and all of those irradiated zombies will be none the wiser. It works via solar panels which means so long as the apocalypse doesn’t blot out the sun you’ll be fine.

It isn’t for sale just yet. The creator says it is just art. To that end, if you want to see it in real life it will be at the 30 x 30 exhibition in Hong ..read more

Sure, there are some cool dresses out there, but how many claim to tell an animated story about the ecosystem? None, well until now. Designers Steven Tai and John Nussey have concocted the Pen Nib Dress, an animated dress that uses the power of motors to tell viewers about the ecosystem.

How does it work? Well, the dress is adorned with over 900 motors, which work in conjunction with one another to create an animated story right there on the dress. It’s actually really cool. Of course, this dress has no practical use. But how often is fashion merely practical? It’s all about the aesthetics and the aesthetics here are all about wow factor.

Of course, this is just a concept design. You can’t run out to Forever 21 and get one ..read more

Piezoelectric energy may just be the future salvation we’ve all been waiting for. Let’s face it. Fossil fuels are becoming a, well, nuisance. Plus, have you seen gas prices lately? Yowza!

Piezoelectric devices basically use a thin film coating to extract energy from motion, sound and other natural sources. Notice the shoe concept design above. On paper, these shoes are a wonder. Every step you take, you generate a finite amount of energy. If you walk a lot, you have a lot of energy. All derived from the humble foot. Not bad, right?

Of course, the technology is in its infancy, but there are already some interesting uses out there. As the energy crisis deepens, look for even more varied uses of the tech. Here’s to endless energy.

Sure, some t-shirts do some pretty cool things. But do any use the power of sound vibrations to charge your mobile device? We think not, until now. Orange UK’s appropriately named Sound Charge T-shirt purports to do just that.

The shirt was designed to be used at loud music festivals. If your charge is running low on your phone, all you have to do is wear the shirt near some of the festival’s many mega-loud speakers. Before long, thanks to the magic of piezoelectrics, your phone will be charged. This is truly a cool and quirky use of technology if there ever was one.

Of course, it only works when it is near really loud sources of sound. Just because your ex-wive’s nagging seems loud to you doesn’t mean it is loud ..read more

Oh Columbia and their heated jackets and other doodads. Wait, the company does cooling too? You bet your chill butt they do. Their new line Ice Tech clothing is shooting to keep you cool as the sun beats down on you. Think of these items as your own personal AC unit.

These frocks work because they are made of flat fibers that bring 35 percent more surface area in contact with your skin than traditional round yarns. The more of the yarn that touches your skin, the cooler you’ll feel. Let’s stare in awe at the wonder of science.

The only downside is these items won’t last forever. The company says they’ll only keep you cool 50-70 trips through the washing machine. Still, unless you are the world’s messiest eater, that’s still ..read more

Sure there is some cool footwear out there. None, however, may be as tech-filled as this the new ForceShoe from Xsens. These shoes use an array of 6DoF force sensors and magnetic trackers to study and analyze your gait. Then the data is all sent wirelessly to a center where further analysis is completed. If you ever wondered “Gee, am I walking right?” then this is the shoe for you.

It was developed at University of Twente and was primarily designed for physio patients. Still, it’s not a bad little gadget for runners and walkers. These nifty sandals aren’t on sale yet but you can secure yourself a pair if you happen to, oh, conduct important research. Get right on that.

Sure, the world has some techy swimwear. What the world didn’t have, however, is a 3D printed bikini. That just changed. Continuum Fashion made just went where no woman has gone before with this innovative new undergarment.

The world’s first 3D-printed bikini is named the N12. It is no gimmick. All you need is a 3D-ready printed and the schematics and you too can prance around town in this swimsuit. This bad boy comes complete with components and closures that snap together without sewing, which is the eventual promise of the 3D printer movement.

The bikini is available now to that 0.000001 percent of you that own a makerbot or something similar. Now where are the boxer shorts?

Pockets. We all have them. But besides storing stuff what else can we do with em? Can’t fry an egg on ‘em. Can’t charge our phones with ‘em. Actually, hold that thought. Thanks to a team of researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) we may have the latter within our grasp. Too bad about the eggs though.

The creators say “”When a 2.4GHz high frequency signal is transmitted through the sheet, it becomes a wireless conductive object.” Basically, electromagnetic waves are captured in the sheet and then concentrated in different areas. In short, it’ll charge stuff.

The power it provides is still pretty weak, clocking at about 1W. Still, the tech is sound and it can only improve in the future. The next step for the team ..read more

Monitoring sleeping patterns can be tricky business. It can require tons of wires, tons of equipment and a whole lot of headaches. Headaches, after all, do not help insomniacs fall asleep. It’s a good thing, then, that recent start up Nyx Devices is on the case. The company has created something called the Somnus Sleep Shirt, which purports to make sleep monitoring easy as counting sheep.

The shirt works by analyzing your breathing patterns. It is fitted with two sensors, one on each side of the shirt, that gets that job done. That information is then transmitted to a small data recorder, which can then be uploaded to the company’s server and analyzed. Co-inventor Matt Bianchi, a sleep neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, thinks the Somnus could help patients suffering from ..read more
