Now this is useful tech. Hyeona Yang and Joshua Noble have devised a raincoat, dubbed Raincatch, that catches rain water and turns it into clean drinking water on the fly. This could actually, you know, help people.
It catches the rainwater and charcoal filters it, thereby purifying it. Then you affix the end of the spigot/straw and you drink up. Elegant simplicity at its finest. This is perfect for polluted areas where drinking water may not always be the best life choice.
Of course, the two designers have stated this is just in the initial stages for now. Don’t go to Spencer’s Gifts looking for one or anything. Not yet anyways.

LED displays keep popping up in the most random of places. But, come on, a lab coat?! Haven’t seen that one before. This ridiculously cool coat was designed by Dave Forbes and it is, essentially, a wearable video display that doubles as a swanky coat. Not bad.
Basically, a bunch of LEDs wrap around the lab coat, giving it the air of being an actual, moving television. It works by being plugged into an iPod or DVD player, and it’s all powered by a 12V battery. It will make its world-wide debut at this year’s Burning Man festival. Yikes, we bet someone pees on it.

Sure, there are lots of LED dresses floating around lately. There aren’t many LED-enabled dress coats, however. Swedish designer Angella Mackey has deigned to fill that void with her first LED design, the Vega One.
This dress coat for ladies is not only stylish but it’s also, um, bright. It comes with two cool looking LEDs, one near each shoulder. The coat is made of a satin finish 60% cotton and 40% polyester fabric, and another set of red LEDs on the back. The designer did this to focus on safety. Nobody wants to run over someone bright.
The coat is on sale now for $449. Get it while it’s hot!

There are a lot of cool jackets in the world, but only one will control your entire multimedia live performance. The Vjacket does just that. The Vjacket allows you to send OpenSoundControl or MIDI messages wireless to the VJ program of your choice, letting you control video effects and transitions, trigger clips and scratch frames all from the comfort of your own jacket.
The jacket was created by Tyler Freeman and Andreas Zingerle, who embedded the jacket with 5 sensors. The 1 Softpot, 2 piezos, 2 bend sensors and 1 photo resistor combine to give you a rough and tumble live performance controlling machine. Oh yeah, it’s also a jacket.
It’s not available for sale yet, but you can watch a video of the Vjacket in action right here.

The ILLUM cycling jacket is the brain child of Goose Design and PDD, a creative design and product design agency respectively. This is the coolest concept cycling jacket that we have seen to date. Not only is it sharp but it uses tech clothing to bring style and safety to cycling.
