Watches

Do you own anything that really shows the world what a geek you are? Now, I mean geek in a cool way not in a thrown in a high school locker way. Besides, you are an adult, you can’t even fit in lockers anymore. So with that in mind, it’s about time you got serious about showing off your geek cred. Let me open your peepers to this Arduino-controlled LED watch.

This piece of nerd-chic tells time with a series of brightly glowing LEDs on an exposed PCB. If you didn’t know what either of those acronyms mean then this is not the watch for you. If you did, however, then you may want to track one of these down. The watch also tells perfect time, if you are worried about ..read more

Tokyoflash pretty much rule the world of experimental watch design. The company is putting the dark back in reading time with a wristwatch that uses true night vision.

The Kisai Night Vision wristwatch was just made official and it has more bells and whistles than you can shake a night-soaked stick at. It features black stainless steel, sub-surface LEDs, a hexagonal form factor and support for USB recharging. The LEDs come in red or green, so it can be aesthetically changed as you see fit.

The Night Vision watch is available right now for around $129.

Fossil has been on the cutting edge wristwatch design for a while now. It comes as no surprise, then, that the company has prepped another fanciful design to add to their collection. Their Meta Watch is everything you could ever hope for in a wristwatch and it is this much closer to being a reality, thanks to its recent passing through the FCC.

The watches sync with your Android phone or tablet in order to do all sorts of cool things. Of course, it’s not out yet so the app selection is non existent at the moment. Expect that to change once these bad boys end up in consumer’s grubby little hands.

They are available for preorder now and launch officially on September 29th. I’ll see you in line at a Fossil ..read more

The main problem with watches? They inflate your carbon footprint to gargantuan dimensions! Ok, not really as bad as, say, anything else, but still. All of that mercury and plastic can’t be good. A company named Sprout is trying to nip that problem in the “bud” by offering a line of green watches.

In all seriousness, though, watches do contribute to the planet’s ills in tiny ways. These Sprout watches eliminate that by making the cases, bands, faces, and bezels out of biodegradable materials. These materials include include bamboo, cotton, resin, and mineral crystals. Not bad, right? Also, they come with mercury-free batteries.

You can order these guys online and do your part to save our precious, precious planet. At least, that is, until the meteors hit.

Viva Tokyoflash! The popular watchmaker is back with their Kisai Kaidoku LCD watch. This watch, shockingly, was designed by a fifteen year old. Pretty cool, right? When I was fifteen I was trying to illegally buy hardcore rap albums and watch snowy softcore porn on Cinemax. Sigh.

This limited edition watch is available in black and white and in what has become a pattern with the company, telling time requires a learning curve. You see, it all depends on what words flow across the screen. You’ll get the hand of it eventually, we promise. Also, the watch is water resistant and quite cool looking, as you can see.

It is available right now at the pretty good price of $139. Watch fans, what are you waiting for?!

The world of luxury watches is growing ever so large as the years go by.  The newest addition? Romain Jerome’s Titanic-DNA watch. It’s golden! Wait, what? No, I mean seriously. There’s a lot of gold in it.

The company outsourced the design of the Titanic-DNA to renowned watch designer Yvan Arpa. The result is an elegant timepiece that is light and housed in lots and lots of delicious gold. That’s not all, though. It has a sort of steampunk design, as you can see above. You can get it in black steel, polished and black steel mixed, or in 18k red gold. Also, because its a luxury item, the bezel features actual metal dragged up from the Titanic. Yes, that Titanic.

These beautiful watches are limited to just around 2,000 made. The ..read more
