iKey AK-39 wearable keyboard

iKey, know for it’s rugged keyboards, had released its AK-39 wearable keyboard. It complies to MIL-461 standards and is intended for military use. It features right or left hand configuration, adjustable back light, night vision compatibility, and a Force Sensing Resistor pointing device. Right now its a military item but don’t be surprised if this kind of product comes to the general public soon.

DIY Keyboard Pants

Take a silicon keyboard and a pair of jeans and you can also attempt this. Zach, the brave builder, took a laser cutter to make the key holes and then stitched in the keyboard. Since the keyboard had to be cut, only the left hand works. For a DIY im sure someone can figure out how to get the other side to work. It is cool to see people attempt to make wearable tech. Keep it coming!

The Wearable Electronic expert Eleksen did it again ….. surprising the world with a twist to their existing fabric keyboard range: the Double Sided USB Keyboard. This concept, presented by Eleksen during the 3GSM in Barcelona last week has a different set of keys on each side. On the top side is a standard set of QWERTY keys for text entry and whatever work you can do on a ‘normal’ computer keyboard but if you flip the keyboard over, you get the basics of a numeric key-pad, optimized key layout for page navigation and quick access keys for music.

The Douple-sided Keyboard is USB powered what let us assume this keyboard can be used with any device (incl. computer) that support USB keyboards.

Earlier this month we have posted about G-Tech’s Fabric Keyboard.

We got a tip today from one of our reader, Chris, with the link to the YouTube video below about the G-Tech Keyboard. Thanks Chris for the heads up.

The video shows how to set up the link between a Blackberry and the Keyboard. An excellent video which we highly recommend to check out if you are interested in this keyboard or just want to see how it actually works.

But there is even more. The creator of this video, smartfabricguy – his YouTube name – has posted 19, in words NINETEEN, videos about the G-Tech Keyboard on YouTube. Follow the link to the smartfabricguy on YouTube and watch all of them.

Warning: After watching all videos – you just want to have ..read more

We reported two days ago about the Fabric Keyboard from Mobis and stated that this is the first distributor of Eleksen’s fabric keyboard.Today, we found on G-Tech’s website that they actually shipping this keyboard already. It can be ordered for US$ 145.- on this online shopping site.

Unfortunately, the price is ‘really’ quite high for a, I must admit, very useful product. Let’s hope that over (short) time, the price will come down a bit to make it a ‘must have’ and affordable item for the ultra mobile road warrior.

The specification is the same as listed in the Mobis review and G-Tech offers also a download of the Bluetooth driver for your Mobile device.
